Vol. 362 No. 9

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

145.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason unemployment assistance is not being paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The unemployment assistance claim of the person concerned was disallowed on the grounds that his means, of £40 weekly, exceeded the statutory limit in his case. His means are derived from the profit from his holding and from the value of capital. He made a supplementary claim on 27 November 1985 and arrangements are being made to refer his case to the social welfare officer for the investigation of his means. When these inquiries are completed his entitlement to unemployment assistance will be reviewed in the light of the amount of means assessed against him.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when payment of unemployment benefit will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal.

Entitlement to unemployment benefit is subject to the condition that a claimant must have at least 26 contributions paid or credited in the governing contribution year. According to the Department's records, the person concerned has no contributions paid or credited during the contribution period 6 April 1983 to 5 April 1984, which governed her entitlement to payment of unemployment benefit on her claim of 19 March 1985. An inquiry was issued to the Department of Health and Social Security to establish what the UK insurance record of the person concerned was during the governing contribution year. That Department requested additional information to enable them to trace her insurance record, and this was supplied to them.

When the Department of Health and Social Security supply the necessary information, the entitlement of the person concerned to unemployment benefit will be determined.

147.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the date on which unemployment benefit payments will cease in the case of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11.

The person concerned claimed unemployment benefit on 6 January 1983 and has subsequently been in continuous receipt of either unemployment benefit or disability benefit. When she made her current claim to unemployment benefit on 11 November 1985, she had exhausted 282 days entitlement to unemployment benefit, as her previous claims to unemployment benefit since 6 January 1983 were linked, through disability benefit claims. The person concerned will have drawn the maximum entitlement of 312 days benefit on 14 December 1985.
