Vol. 362 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Tree Felling Licences.

13.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the number of tree felling licences issued by his Department in 1983, 1984 and 1985 and if the conditions applying to these orders are being complied with.

The following were the number of tree felling licences issued in the year in question:

Year

Number of licences issued

1983

182

1984

165

1985

147

These licences are monitored by local forestry staff of my Department to ensure that the conditions attached to the licences are complied with.

What are the general conditions in relation to the licences? Is there a condition that trees be planted to make up for the ones cut down?

There is such a condition but certain licences are granted to allow for land reclamation. Where trees are felled for land reclamation the licences will state that.

Is the Minister satisfied that the licences are being complied with?
