The question of the provision of a protection vessel for the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board is at present under consideration by my Department as well as similar requests from other regional fisheries boards.
To enable me to assess the requirements of all the fisheries boards in this matter I have asked the Central Fisheries Board to make a comprehensive examination of numbers, types and costs of vessels required by the various boards for salmon fishery protection work. I am at present awaiting the Central Fisheries Board's report on the matter.
