The provision of an auction hall at Howth has been under consideration in the context of the development scheme for the harbour. However, in view of the very substantial expenditure by my Department on Howth harbour in recent years and the need to allocate the funds available as equitably as possible on the basis of the most urgent and pressing fishery harbour works throughout the country, it has not been possible to proceed with the auction hall at Howth. In view of present fishery harbour work commitments, I am not in a position at this stage to say when a financial allocation for the project can be made.
