Vol. 362 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Banagher (Offaly) Cable Television.

7.

Mr. Cowen

asked the Minister for Communications the company which have obtained the franchise for cable television in Banagher, County Offaly.

A letter of intent to issue a cable licence, subject to fulfilment of certain conditions, has been issued to Suir Nore Relays Limited, Cabra Road, Thurles, County Tipperary. A licence will be issued when the terms attached to the letter of intent have been complied with.

How many other applicants were there for that project?

There were two companies, the Suir Nore Relays company and J.K. Relays.

Has the Minister any bias against J.K. Relays? They have been successful in gaining franchises in other areas.

As has been my practice since I became Minister I accept always the advice of my officials, a change from what happened before I became Minister.

Has the Minister any proposals to bring before the House for the delicensing of deflectors which were to facilitate rural areas of County Offaly?

That is another question and if the Deputy wishes to table another question I will be delighted to answer it.

I did, but it was ruled out of order.
