asked the Minister for Finance (a) the amount of total Exchequer borrowing to date in 1985 and the corresponding figures for 1983 and 1984; (b) the cost of servicing the interest in each year; and (c) the proportions of such borrowing required for capital and current expenditure in each year.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers (Resumed). - Exchequer Borrowing.
I have to ask you to bear with me because in order to avoid unpleasantness if I say I am circulating a tabular statement, I will be reading all the figures. The information sought by the Deputy is based on published statistics on Exchequer borrowing and the composition of its application that are available only on a quarterly basis. Therefore, I propose to answer parts (a) and (c) of the Deputy's question in relation to the period January-September and the corresponding periods of 1983 and 1984.

Note that the figures for 1983 are not directly comparable with those for 1984 and 1985 because of the transfer of responsibility for the day to day operation of the postal and telecommunication services to An Post and Bord Telecom Éireann.
