Limerick East): Recruitment from the last competition is still continuing and, as I indicated in reply to parliamentary questions on 27 November last, I hope to be in a position fairly soon to announce details of a new competition which is likely to be held next spring.
The National Plan, Building on Reality, provides that the strength of the Garda Síochána will be maintained at its current approved strength of 11,400 over the period 1985 to 1987. The actual strength of the force on 30 November 1985 was 11,390.
