Vol. 363 No. 1

Written Answers. - Galway Water and Sewerage Schemes.

116.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of sewerage schemes in County Galway where tenders are awaiting sanction; and when he hopes to approve commencement of these schemes with details of the costs involved.

119.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of town and regional water schemes in County Galway for which tenders have been received and which are awaiting sanction from his Department; when he expects to approve the tenders; and the cost in each case.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 116 and 119 together. There are no tenders for sewerage schemes in County Galway before my Department at present. Galway County Council have however submitted a proposal for the acceptance of a tender for the Rosmuck water supply scheme. I hope to be able to convey a decision to the council on this proposal shortly. It would not be appropriate for me to divulge the costs involved at this stage in the tendering process.

117.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position with regard to Gort regional water supply scheme County Galway; and if he proposes to pay the objectors costs on the confirmation of the water rights order.

The submission by Galway County Council of contract documents for the Gort regional water supply scheme together with a certificate confirming that all essential preliminaries for the scheme have been completed is awaited in my Department.

The Gort Regional Water Supply Provisional Order, 1984, was confirmed by me on 10 December 1985. An application made to me regarding a contribution towards costs incurred in relation to the inquiry held into the objections to the Gort Regional Water Supply Scheme Provisional Order, 1984, is at present the subject of correspondence between my Department and Galway County Council.

118.

asked the Minister for the Environment the date on which the preliminary report for the midGalway regional water supply scheme Zone 3 (Derrydonnell/Athenry) was submitted to his Department; the reason for the long delay in approving this report; if he is aware of the serious water shortage in the Athenry area where several group schemes are unable to proceed because of the shortage of an adequate water supply; and when he proposes to approve this preliminary report.

I would refer the Deputy to the replies to Questions Nos. 277, 278 and 280 of 1 December 1983. I approved contract documents in December, 1985 to extend the Council's main from Oranmore to Derrydonnell. There are no further proposals before me in this matter. The planning of further sections of this scheme to the Athenry area is a matter for Galway County Council.
