Vol. 363 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Refunds.

141.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax refund will be issued to a person (details supplied) in County Sligo.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that reviews of the taxpayer's liabilities for the years 1982-83, 1983-84 and 1984-85 have been completed and a cheque in settlement of the refund due will be issued as soon as possible.

142.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will arrange for a tax refund of £11,363.75 to be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Offaly.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the sum of £10,196.76, out of VAT repayments totalling £11,308.76, has been withheld against arrears of income tax and PAYE/PRSI. The balance of £1,112 will be repaid shortly.

143.

asked the Minister for Finance when a tax refund will be paid to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 22 who was employed by AnCO at Loughlinstown Training Centre, County Dublin, for 11 years, and wishes to emigrate.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that for the current year the taxpayer is regarded as a resident of the State for tax purposes and, accordingly, is chargeable to Irish tax on his income arising in this country and also on any income which might arise abroad. Consequently, his liability for this year cannot be reviewed until after 5 April next. However, any claims which he makes for repayment of tax on the grounds of unemployment will be dealt with at four weekly intervals for as long as he is residing in the State.
