281.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare (a) the total number of persons in receipt of the family income supplement; (b) the maximum payment and the number receiving it; and (c) the number receiving (i) less than the maximum but over £10; (ii) between £5 and £10 and (iii) those receiving less than £5.

320.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of persons at present receiving the family income supplement; and the average payment in each case.

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 281 and 320 together.

(a) The number of persons receiving family income supplement at 17 January 1986 was 4,663; (b) 134 persons were receiving the maximum rate of £18 per week; (c) (i) 1,104 persons were receiving less than £18 but over £10 per week; (ii) 1,983 persons were receiving between £5 and £10 per week; (iii) 1,442 persons were receiving less than £5 per week. The average payment was £7.78 per week.
