Vol. 363 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Roscommon Teacher and Student Statistics.

409.

asked the Minister for Education the number of (a) men and (b) women in County Roscommon teaching in primary schools.

According to the records of the Department the numbers are: 70 men teachers and 256 women teachers.

410.

asked the Minister for Education the total number of students in County Roscommon who, on reaching the age of 18, were obliged to leave special schools at the end of the schools years 1981-82, 1982-83, 1983-84 and 1984-85.

There is only one special school in County Roscommon. The statistics available to my Department suggest that one pupil left the school in question at the end of the 1982-83 school year on attaining the age of 18; at the end of the 1983-84 school year one pupil aged 18 and a second pupil aged 19 left the school; two pupils who reached 18 years left at the end of the 1984-85 school year. My Department does not have the necessary data for the 1981-82 school year in respect of this school which opened in October 1981. The pupils in question would not have been obliged to leave as the enrolment of pupils in special national schools after they have reached the age of 18 years is permitted, subject to the written approval of my Department being obtained.

411.

asked the Minister for Education the number of persons employed in County Roscommon as remedial teachers in each of the years 1981-82, 1982-83, 1983-84, 1984-85 in (a) primary schools and (b) secondary schools; and the total number of students receiving remedial education at primary and secondary level in each of the years.
