Vol. 363 No. 1

Written Answers. - Upgrading of Nenagh (Tipperary) Hospital.

20.

asked the Minister for Health if, in view of the inadequate accommodation in the County Hospital, Nenagh, County Tipperary, he intends to make a capital allocation in 1986 to provide extra bed accommodation.

In September 1985 the Mid-Western Health Board submitted a planning brief for the upgrading of ward accommodation and the improvement of some support services at the General Hospital, Nenagh. These proposals are currently under examination in my Department and discussions have been held with officials of the board. The proposals do not involve additional beds at the hospital but rather seek to improve the accommodation standards for the existing bed complement.

I am fully conscious of the need for these improvements in Nenagh and I intend to provide capital assistance to enable the work to proceed. I am not yet able to say when building work will commence.
