I am informed that 1,605 companies assisted by the Industrial Development Authority ceased operations between 1977 and 1985. In the same period the authority provided grant assistance to 3,006 companies which commenced operations.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism the number of new factories which were built and completed with IDA support in the years 1977 to 1985 inclusive.
The construction and completion of new factories can take place either as part of the IDA's factory building programme or through independent construction projects undertaken by companies which have been grant aided by the IDA.
Details of the operation of the IDA's factory building programme are provided in the authority's annual reports. Particulars relating to the period 1977 to 1984 are to be found in the reports for the years in question, copies of which have been laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas. Details in respect of 1985 will be included in the annual report for that year which will be laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas in due course.
Data concerning the number of factories built by IDA assisted companies is not readily available and would require substantial commitment in time and resources in order to secure its extraction from the IDA data-base.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism the number of industrial projects which were grant aided by the IDA in each of the years 1977 to 1985 inclusive.
Details of the number of industrial projects approved for grant assistance by the Industrial Development Authority are provided each year in the annual report of the authority, copies of which are laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas. Details are also provided in the report in regard to payments made by the authority by grant programme to individual companies. The annual reports of the authority for the years up to 1984 have been laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas. The annual report of the authority for 1985 will be laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas in due course.
