Vol. 363 No. 1

Written Answers. - Construction of Limerick Bridge.

106.

asked the Minister for the Environment the proposed starting date for the construction of the Mallow Street Bridge, Limerick; the number of people who will be employed; the estimated finishing date; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In November 1985, I approved Limerick Corporation's proposals for the acceptance of a tender for the construction of the bridge. The timing of the commencement of work on the bridge is a matter for the local authority and the contractor, subject to the satisfactory completion of certain formalities including the signing of a contract. The employment of personnel on the construction of the bridge is a matter for the contractor and I am not, therefore, in a position at this stage to give any information on the number of employees that will be involved. It is envisaged that the bridge and the associated approach roads will be completed by mid-1988.
