My Department have no responsibility for the collation of official statistics on factory closures and the Central Statistics Office do not provide figures relating to factory closures. However, I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that they are aware of the following number of factory closures during the years 1983, 1984 and 1985: 1983 — 369; 1984 — 372 and 1985 — 410.
The total number of liquidations and companies placed in receivership notified to the Registrar of Companies during these years was as follows:
