Discussions between the Association of International Accountants and my Department are continuing in regard to the association's request for recognition under section 162 of the Companies Act, 1963, as amended. The main outstanding difficulty concerns the number of the association's members who qualified for membership prior to the introduction of the present examination requirements of the association. This number is believed to represent a significant proportion of total membership at present. I expect that it will be possible to bring the present discussions with the association to a conclusion in the near future.
