Vol. 363 No. 11

Valuation Bill, 1985: Report and Final Stages.

I move amendment No. 1:

In page 2, between lines 11 and 12, to insert the following:

"(2) For the purposes of the Valuation Acts, ‘plant' means—

(a) any fixture or structure so attached or secured to, or integrated with, premises comprising any mill or manufactory, or building erected or used for any such purpose, as to be of a permanent or semi-permanent nature, or

(b) any fixture or structure associated with such premises that, although free-standing, is of such size, weight and construction as to be of a permanent or semi-permanent nature.".

Amendment agreed to.

I move amendment No. 2:

In page 4, to delete lines 1 to 8 and substitute the following:

"(2) The Commissioner of Valuation shall value plant falling within any of the categories of plant specified in the Schedule to this Act (inserted by the Valuation Act, 1985).".

Amendment agreed to.
Question proposed: "That the Bill do now pass".

This demonstrates how reasonable we can be. Some 12 months ago we assured the Minister that if he would accept our wise, enlightened and reasonable amendments we would be very reasonable with him.

I have every confidence that Deputy O'Kennedy will adopt the same approach with regard to the Finance Bill. Then we can get it through the House in two hours.
