Vol. 363 No. 11

Written Answers. - Land Usage.

39.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he considers the concepts of land use in 1986 to be different from the concepts of land use in 1963 when the principal planning Act was introduced; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The point at issue in the question is not clear. The Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963, requires each planning authority to make a development plan indicating objectives which, in the case of county boroughs, boroughs, urban districts and scheduled towns, must include the zoning of land for residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural or other uses. While it would be possible to list other categories of land use, I do not consider that any useful purpose would be served by amending the 1963 Act in this respect.

Question No. 40 re-entered for oral reply.
