Vol. 363 No. 13

Written Answers. - Restriction of Fishing Vessel.

21.

asked the Minister for Fisheries, Forestry and Tourism if he has carried out any investigation into the circumstances in which an Irish fishing vessel was ordered by a British Navy gunboat not to fish within a 12 mile limit around Rockall; if any representations have been made to the British authorities regarding the incident and the response to any such representations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

On being informed of the incident in question by the owner of the vessel concerned, my Department contacted the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for Scotland and was informed that the incident arose because of a misunderstanding on the part of the personnel of the fishery protection vessel in question. The problem has therefore been satisfactorily resolved.
