Vol. 363 No. 13

Written Answers. - Wildlife Rangers.

28.

asked the Minister for Fisheries, Forestry and Tourism if he has any proposals to recruit further wildlife rangers; the total number now employed; and if he is satisfied that sufficient personnel are available to implement the provisions of the Wildlife Act.

There are 47 wildlife rangers employed by my Department at present to enforce the provisions of the Wildlife Act. There are no proposals to recruit additional rangers.

I am satisfied that the present wildlife ranger force is deployed to optimum effect as evidenced by the high number of prosecutions for offences under the Wildlife Act, taken since its coming into operation.
