Vol. 363 No. 13

Written Answers. - Ballybofey (Donegal) Swimming Pool.

82.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding approval for the provision of a swimming pool in Ballybofey, County Donegal; the estimated cost of the project; and the amount of grant-aid which will be provided.

Donegal County Council were requested last December to send full details to my Department of the proposal to provide a swimming pool at Ballybofey. A response from the council is awaited. The council estimated the cost in November 1985 to be £500,000. Subject to the allocations determined in the public capital programme and the other demands on the funds available, borrowing by local authorities for the provision of swimming pools is normally allowed up to 80 per cent of the cost with local contributions making up the balance. A subsidy of 50 per cent of the loan charges on approved borrowing is made available by my Department.
