asked the Minister for Health the number of new cases which have come before the independent medical group for determination in respect of alleged brain damage suffered by children as a result of whooping cough vaccine since the group's report was furnished to him in June 1982; the number of children in total the group have adjudged to have been damaged as a result of whooping cough vaccine; and the number of the parents who were entitled to seek payments of the ex-gratia sum of £10,000 who have taken up such payments to date.

Since June 1982, the expert medical group on whooping cough vaccination examined 39 further cases of alleged vaccine damage. A total of 93 persons have been assessed by the group and it has concluded that 16 of these may have been damaged by the vaccine on the balance of probability. The £10,000ex-gratia payment has been accepted on behalf of nine of the persons.
