Vol. 364 No. 3

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take item No. 16.

Item No. 16. Deputy Liam Cosgrave is in possession.

On the Order of Business, would the Taoiseach or the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry make a statement on the forest fire which is raging in County Cork, where it is estimated that 1,000 acres if not more of very valuable forestry have been destroyed?

Deputy Daly is a senior member of the House and knows that he cannot raise that matter on the Order of Business.

This is the first time that we have had a Coalition Minister and somebody set the mountain on fire.

Could the Taoiseach give some indiction that the Minister would be prepared to make a statement today on this matter?

The Deputy should approach the Whips.

With your permission, I wish to raise with the Minister for Energy why the feasibility study which was being carried out during the past three weeks at Ballingarry anthracite mines, South Tipperary, has been discontinued.

Deputy Byrne, this is not Question Time. It is the Order of Business. You cannot raise that matter now.

I want to raise the matter on the Adjournment.

I shall communicate with the Deputy, sorry. I call Deputy Cosgrave.

I have a query for the Minister for Labour or the Minister for Social Welfare. A man who refused to work on the social employment scheme——

You cannot raise that matter here.

This is very urgent. This man's unemployment assistance was terminated because he refused to work on the social employment scheme, which is a voluntary scheme.

Deputy Cosgrave, on the budget.

The social employment scheme is a voluntary one and his unemployment assistance was cut off. I would like a reply from the Minister for Social Welfare.

Deputy Cosgrave on the budget.
