Where a house is built under a contract entered into before 1 May 1985, a £2,000 grant is paid only where the applicant satisfies my Department that specified payments at 10 per cent VAT rate were made by him on or after 1 May 1985 in accordance with the terms of the contract. In this case the person named entered into a fixed price contract in September 1984 and the 10 per cent VAT rate was not applicable. A £1,000 grant was paid accordingly on 3 October 1985.
