Vol. 364 No. 5

Written Answers. - Teamwork Scheme.

110.

Mr. Cowen

asked the Minister for Labour the amount of money allocated to the Teamwork scheme last year; the amount spent on projects passed by him; the number and value of schemes passed in each county; and the estimated amount that would be required to fund all the eligible projects submitted for approval last year and for the youth employment agency.

The allocation for Teamwork in 1985 was £8.5 million. Expenditure in that year was £8.476 million.

The following is a breakdown on a county basis of the number of schemes sanctioned and the amounts approved for each county in 1985 under Teamwork.

Almost 500 applicants could not be assisted in 1985 due to limitations on funds or for other reasons. It would not be possible, without an examination of all the applications concerned, to indicate the total amount of money involved. The best estimate is that a sum in the region of £15 million would be required to finance those applications which would have been otherwise eligible under the scheme.

111.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of applications for the Teamwork scheme which have been turned down; the finance available in the current year; and if he has any plans to provide additional funding to the scheme during the current year.

It has not been possible to provide assistance to approximately 240 applications submitted under Teamwork for financial or other reasons.

The total amount of money available under the scheme in 1986 is £5 million.

However, because of the large number of projects approved for assistance in 1985 which have continued into the present year, very heavy financial commitments under the scheme have been carried over to the present year. It has been possible, therefore, to approve grants for only a limited number of new projects in 1986.

There are no plans at present to provide additional funding for the scheme in 1986.
