Vol. 364 No. 6

Written Answers - Harbour Schemes.

39.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry the reason the auction hall has not been proceeded with in Howth when in 1983 at a meeting in the Deerpark Hotel, Howth fishermen were told by officials of his Department that plans were at an advanced stage for seeking tenders for the erection of the auction hall there; the reason the erection of the auction hall included in phase I of the development plan was removed from that phase of development; and the precise position in regard to the major development plan for Rossaveel.

While plans were drawn up for the provision of an auction hall as part of the Howth harbour development scheme its erection has not been proceeded with because of the very substantial expenditure by my Department on Howth harbour in recent years and the need to allocate the funds available for fishery harbour works as equitably as possible on the basis of the most urgent and pressing works throughout the country. The plan for the major development scheme proposed for Rossaveel is at an advanced stage and will be made available to the Rossaveel Harbour Development Advisory Committee in the near future.
