53.

asked the Minister for Defence the plans he has to continue full time FCA NCO courses at command headquarters; and if he will agree that this policy has improved the standard of instruction which will improve NCO standards in future years.

It is intended to continue centralised training for potential NCOs of An Fórsa.

54.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that PDF training officers attached to FCA units are going on overseas duty without replacements being made in such units; the numbers of such officers by rank who went on foreign duties over the last three years; the number of replacements made; and the number of vacancies which occurred where no replacements were made.

During the past three years, three officers (two Captains and one Lieutenant), who were filling training officer appointments with FCA units, served overseas for periods of six months each. Of these, one was replaced for part of the period of his service overseas and the other two appointments remained vacant.
