The application in question will be dealt with under section 54 of the Fisheries Act, 1980, which allows me to designate areas within which it shall be lawful to engage in aquaculture subject to licence. A programme for the designation of various areas is being arranged and notice of intention to designate the area in question will be published in due course.
In the light of the response to the proposal to designate the area, a public inquiry may be held locally in order to hear evidence to the proposal. In the event of the making of a designation order, applications will be processed without further delay.
