I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer held three separate employments in 1984-85, two of which ceased on 31 August and 7 September 1984. The inspector of taxes was not notified by the employer of the cessation which took place on the latter date. Consequently, when a review of the taxpayer's liability for 1985-86 was being carried out in November 1985, in connection with a claim made by her for a tax refund on the grounds of unemployment, no repayments emerged because the inspector was not in possession of all the relevant facts pertaining to the claim.
The inspector will now communicate directly with the taxpayer requesting the details necessary to review her tax position for 1984-85 and 1985-86.
