Vol. 365 No. 1

Written Answers. - Herring Fisheries.

132.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry if he will make a statement on the future prospects of the herring fisheries.

The total allowable catch (TAC) and Irish quotas for herring for the various fishery areas for 1986 as compared with 1985 are as follows:

(a)1,400 tonnes of this has been transferred to the Federal Republic of Germany in return for 3,750 tonnes of mackerel.

As can be seen, there is a general increase in the total allowable catch levels which results in increases in the quotas allocated to each member state. This trend is expected to continue and higher quotas may be expected for 1987.
