I have had technical advice on a more extensive use of alcohol as a motor fuel. I have been informed that at present the production of alcohol for this purpose is not economic compared with the cost of petrol. Such use of fuel grade alcohol manufactured by fermentation of cereals or root crops would give rise to a significant increase in the price of motor fuel to industry and to the consumer in general.
