Vol. 365 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Treatment.

40.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that a person (details supplied) in Dublin 17 is in urgent need of surgical attention for a double hernia and is presently suffering from terrible discomfort; if he will intervene to have this case expedited; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The criterion used in selecting patients for an operation is medical need. I understand that the person referred to is not regarded as an urgent case by the hospital. However, if the person concerned feels that his complaint warrants more immediate attention, he should contact his general practitioner who can request the consultant to re-assess the case.
