In 1985, 1,821 herdowners participated in the milk recording schemes with a total of 114,607 cows being recorded. The number of cows recorded has doubled since 1979 and it is envisaged that further progress will be made in the years ahead. Since January 1986 the Irish Dairy Records Co-operative has taken over full responsibility for the provision of the national milk recording service.
In 1985 State subvention to the IDRC amounted to £375,000 and in 1986 it will be increased to £445,000.
