Vol. 365 No. 11

Written Answers. - Mayo Grant Applications.

25.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the difficulty being experienced in County Mayo by applicants for new house grants in having inspections and payments made; if he is satisfied that there are sufficient inspectors available; and if he will make a statement on the number of applications waiting over two months for inspection and on the general administration of inspection for and payment of these grants.

I am aware that some delays have arisen in carrying out inspections for new house grants in County Mayo. The absence of an inspector on sick leave has been a contributory factor. Measures are being taken, within the resources available, to expedite inspections in the area and to deal with the backlog. The number of files awaiting inspection in County Mayo since 31 January 1986 is 64.
