asked the Minister for the Environment the reasons that a special grant has not been made available for a group water scheme (details supplied) in County Galway, if he is aware of the serious difficulties being encountered by this group and of the terrible shortage of water in their area; if he will now sanction this special allocation to ensure that the group can proceed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I indicated on 10 April 1986 to the Galway County Council that I would be prepared to approve a special contribution by the council of £12,226 to the group if the council were prepared to make such a contribution. The allocation of grants to enable work to commence will be considered when the council's response has been received.
