Vol. 365 No. 14

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

51.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will expedite payment of a new house grant to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

A grant will be paid when an inspection establishes that the house has been satisfactorily completed and occupied and that all the conditions of the grant schemes have been fulfilled. The inspection will be carried out within the next few weeks.

52.

asked the Minister for the Environment when the remainder of the house improvement grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

Maximum grants amounting to £1,800 were approved in this case under the 1981 scheme in respect of water and sewerage facilities, the provision of a bathroom and bedroom and the carrying out of necessary repairs. A maximum £200 water grant was paid in February 1986 at which time the other works had not been completed. When an inspection establishes that the remaining works have been satisfactorily completed, arrangements will be made to pay the balance of the grants.

53.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will investigate the allegations of the dumping of toxic and domestic waste in the dump at Killacloyne, Glounthaune, County Cork, which was designated a dry fill dump by Cork County Council.

69.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is satisfied that the landfill site at Killacloyne, Glounthaune, County Cork, is being operated in accordance with the European Communities (Waste) Regulations, 1979; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 53 and 69 together.

I understand that the waste disposal site in question is the subject of a permit from Cork County Council under the European Communities (Waste) Regulations, 1979. The conditions attached to such a permit and the monitoring of compliance with these conditions are matters for the local authority within its overall responsibility for the planning and management of waste disposal operations in its area.
