asked the Minister for Finance the total cost to the Exchequer in respect of tax foregone through tax relief on subscriptions to the VHI in each of the last five years.

The relevant information available is in respect of tax relief on medical insurance premiums nearly all of which are paid to the VHI. This information is as follows:

asked the Minister for Finance the total cost to the Exchequer in respect of tax foregone through tax relief on interest on building society loans, in each of the last five years.

Statistics are not recorded in such a manner as would enable an estimate of the cost of tax relief on interest on building society loans only to be provided. Such information could not be obtained without undertaking an inquiry which could be carried out only at a disproportionate cost. The relevant information available is in respect of tax relief for interest paid on foot of all qualifying house loans whether taken out with building societies or other lending institutions. This information is as follows:
