Vol. 366 No. 8

Written Answers. - Care of Autistic Children.

107.

asked the Minister for Health if he has any proposals to provide day care facilities for autistic children presently attending Beaumont Assessment Centre and who will be discharged from that centre at 18 years of age as the parents of such children (details supplied) are very concerned that there will be no follow on continuation beyond the age of 18 years.

I understand that the Irish Society for Autistic Children is endeavouring to obtain suitable premises in the Beaumont area to provide vocational training and after-care developmental services for autistic children who are discharged from St. Paul's Hospital and Special School, Beaumont. The Society's proposals for such services are being considered by the Eastern Health Board.

In the interim I am asking the Eastern Health Board to look into the case mentioned with a view to making suitable arrangements for follow-up care.
