Vol. 366 No. 10

Written Answers. - Updating of Dublin Police Act.

25.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has any plans to update the Dublin Police Act, 1842, which permits a maximum fine of £2 for a variety of public offences; and if he will bring the level of fines up to date.

The Law Reform Commission submitted a report and recommendations last year on offences under the Dublin Police Acts and related offences. The commission's recommendations in relation thereto will be considered and appropriate legislative reform undertaken as soon as resources permit. I should mention that a number of provisions of the 1842 Act, such as road traffic offences, are within the area of responsibility of the Minister for the Environment and their review and updating would be a matter for him.
