asked the Minister for Education whether he received proposals from Galway Borough Council regarding the provision of a sporting facility (details supplied) in County Galway; and if those proposals have been examined yet.

The committee appointed to examine the requirements of a national sports centre, has received a joint proposal from Galway Corporation and University College, Galway that the national sports centre be located in Galway. The proposed site is on lands at Dangan which are in the ownership of University College, Galway. The committee visited Galway on 12 February 1986. During the visit the committee met with representatives of the corporation and the university and visited the proposed site.
The committee is examining the proposal in question in association with proposals from other local authorities regarding the location of the national sports centre and will be submitting recommendations to me in June 1986.
