Vol. 367 No. 1

Written Answers. - Intervention Butter.

146.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when he will be in a position to compensate manufacturers of butter because of the delay of a further 60 days in the payment from intervention; if the dairy industry is able to carry this type of overhead; and if he will pay the full intervention equivalent to farmers in milk prices.

The 60 day waiting period for intervention butter which applied since February lapsed with the beginning of the new marketing year on 12 May. From the same date the minimum period of delay for payment was increased from 90 to 120 days. The result is a net gain of 0.8p per gallon in respect of milk used for intervention butter.
