asked the Minister for Labour if he will make a statement on the present schemes operated by him for youth employment; the total numbers employed in such schemes in County Clare; and if he has any further proposals for new schemes.

The youth employment and training scheme operated by my Department and its agencies aim at assisting young people make the transition from school to work life, improve their skills, start their own enterprises, obtain private sector employment and place on temporary employment schemes. The following is a breakdown of the number of young people from County Clare currently being catered for on manpower programmes.

Employment Incentive Scheme Statistics on this Programme are not available on a county basis. However, participation by young people in the Limerick region, which includes County Clare, is approximately 500 annually.

I am satisfied that the programmes referred to above are adequately catering for the specific needs of the young people in the manpower area. The programmes are kept under continuous review.
