Vol. 367 No. 2

Written Answers. - Camolin (Wexford) School.

101.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that the children and teachers of Camolin national school, County Wexford, are enduring severe hardships in three rooms of the old national school plus one prefabricated room erected in 1968; if he is aware that there is overcrowding; if he accepts such conditions are not conducive to good education; when the building of the new school will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My information in relation to the Camolin national school is that the present school accommodation comprises three permanent classrooms, one of which is significantly below standard size, and one prefabricated classroom. The recent enrolment average was 105 pupils. The staff consists of a principal and three assistants.

My Department is at present considering the question of inviting tenders for a proposed new school building, and a decision on the matter will, subject to the usual review of enrolment trends, be communicated to the school authorities as soon as possible.
