Vol. 367 No. 5

Written Answers. - Intoxicating Liquor Bill.

151.

asked the Minister for Justice the present position in relation to licences to serve alcoholic drink in restaurants; when the new Bill is likely to be initiated; the requirements for such a licence; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An Intoxicating Liquor Bill, which will include provisions to implement the liquor licensing decisions announced in the national plan, is at present being drafted. This will authorise the grant of special licences to restaurants of an acceptable standard, to allow them to serve a full range of alcoholic drinks with substantial meals. I hope to be in a position to introduce this Bill before the summer recess.

In advance of publication of the Bill I cannot comment on its detailed provisions other than to say that, as has already been indicated publicly, it will provide for the setting of standards which restaurants must meet in order to qualify for special restaurant licences.
