Vol. 367 No. 5

Written Answers. - Mountcharles (Donegal) School Transport.

161.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for Education if he will approve the rerouting of the school transport to Saint Peter's national school, Mountcharles, County Donegal, in order to facilitate children in Drimancary and Muntirnecoe areas in view of the fact that there are medical problems involved.

162.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for Education if, and when, approval will be granted for an extension of the school transport service to Saint Peter's national school, Mountcharles, County Donegal, so that children may disembark from and board the buses at the school gate rather than on the main street as presently operates.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 161 and 162 together.

Children who avail of school transport to Mountcharles national school, County Donegal have a reasonable standard of service available to them within the terms of the school transport scheme and the extra cost involved in changing the setdown point would not be justified.

The granting of improved facilities in the case of pupils living in the townlands mentioned by the Deputy would not be warranted as the service already available is satisfactory within the terms of the scheme. The medical evidence which was submitted to my Department on behalf of one child was not considered by the medical referee to be sufficient to prevent him making his way to the pick up point of the service as currently operated.
