Vol. 367 No. 5

Written Answers. - Anglo-Irish Agreement Financial Aid Package.

22.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if, in view of Mr. Tom King's remarks that the financial aid package in support of the Anglo-Irish Agreement was very much linked to the British/American Treaty on extradition, his attitude to this statement and if there are no strings attached to this financial aid package.

The US contribution to the international fund is at present being considered by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. At the moment it is not yet clear when the committee will have completed its examination of the two Bills dealing with this issue. Because of this it is not possible to say, when the legislation providing for a US contribution to the Fund will complete its passage through Congress.

Neither of the two Bills referred by the Senate to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee contains any link with the ratification of the US-UK Supplementary Extradition Treaty. The conditions mentioned in the two Bills include both internal US administrative matters and political matters such as non-discrimination in the disbursement of any funds allocated.
