Vol. 367 No. 6

Written Answers. - Ardmore (Bray) Film Studios.

22.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the measures, if any, the Government is taking to secure the reopening and development of Ardmore Studios in Bray; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Limerick East): The National Film Studios of Ireland Limited were put into liquidation in April 1982 and sold to SIPRA Ardmore Studios in August 1984. The studies never reopened, however, because the purchasing company itself went into liquidation shortly thereafter.

While the State, therefore, no longer has any direct role as owner in securing the re-opening of the studios, the Government has, of course, every interest in seeing Ardmore making films and providing employment on a viable basis. In that regard, I am aware of certain developments which hopefully will have a positive outcome but the confidential nature of my information precludes me from saying anything more at this stage.
