The information on the total amount of the national debt (i.e. Exchequer debt) and on its domestic and foreign components for the years 1951 to 1985 is given in the following tabular statement. Information in respect of 1986 will not be available until after the end of the year.
Details regarding the currency composition of the foreign debt are contained in the Finance Accounts which are presented to both Houses of the Oireachtas each year as prescribed by statute. For the Deputy's information, however, the currency composition of the 1985 foreign debt is given below, as the 1985 Finance Accounts will not be presented to the Houses of the Oireachtas until later this month.
