asked the Minister for Defence if he is seeking tenders for the building of P31 type Navy boats or any other type for both security and fishery protection or if he will give priority to Irish ship builders and especially to the former Verolme Cork Dockyard; and if he will make a statement on the matter informing the House of the present position.

My Department is not presently seeking tenders for the construction of vessels for the Naval Service. However, in the event of further vessels being required, inquiries would be made to any firms within the State capable of constructing such vessels.
