Vol. 367 No. 9

Written Answers. - Tax Free Allowances.

56.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason a tax exemption allowance for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford was not allowed for 1986-87.

It is regretted that, owing to an oversight, an amended certificate of tax-free allowances granting tax exemption for 1986-87 was not issued to the taxpayer until 3 June 1986. Any tax which has been deducted from his retirement pension since 6 April 1986 will be refunded to the taxpayer by the payer of that pension when the amended certificate is put into operation.

On the basis of the information available to the inspector of taxes, the taxpayer is not entitled to tax exemption for the current year. An amended certificate of tax-free allowances for that year incorporating an estimated amount of marginal relief due will be issued to the taxpayer as soon as possible. Any tax overdeducted from his retirement pension since 6 April 1986 will be refunded to the taxpayer by the payer of that pension when the amended certificate is put into operation.
